The A's handled just one hit while dropping the opener Monday, 7-0. Luis Medina is Oakland's scheduled starter for Tuesday while the Red Sox will select one more bullpen game. The bullpen video game wasn't a trouble for Boston Monday as Nick Pivetta followed opener Brennan Bernadino and tossed six scoreless innings while tape-recording 13 strikeouts. Oakland may use a comparable approach Tuesday with Medina, who has followed an opener in two of his last four looks. It has been a backwards and forwards season for Medina that goes into Tuesday's beginning with a 6.34 age and a 5.40 FIP in 592/3 innings. He pitched much better in his final beginning before the break allowing 7 hits and 4 runs over six innings against Boston. While those numbers may not appear to excellent, he started out nine and provided just one walk. That complied with a 2 begin stretch where he had actually walked 12 in just 10 innings. After playing well offensively over the weekend break, the A's bats ran right into a buzzsaw in Pivetta Monday.
